The Czech startup Trime, known for crafting nutritional supplements down to the last molecule, has introduced new products tailored for children: KIDS DHA + D3/K2 and OMEGA 3 KIDS. By focusing on the highest quality ingredients, direct control over the production process, and unique formulations, Trime aims to highlight that many essential nutrients have disappeared from our diets and that supplementation is important at any age. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA contributes to normal brain function.
“Analysis of Czech dietary habits shows insufficient intake of vitamin D3 and omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, as well as vitamin K2 in the MK7 form. Industrial food production has contributed to this deficiency. For example, vitamin K2 used to be more readily available in diets and partially synthesized by a healthy gut microbiome. Today, its intake is mostly limited to specific foods like fermented cabbage or natto, which are rarely consumed in most regions,” explains Jakub Přibyl, product specialist at Trime.
Supplements for Optimal Growth
To address these gaps, Trime has expanded its portfolio with two new products: Omega-3 KIDS and DHA + D3/K2 KIDS. The former focuses on increasing children’s intake of DHA, an essential omega-3 fatty acid crucial for their development. According to EFSA’s comprehensive report, a deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids during early childhood can negatively impact psychomotor development. The latter product also supplements vitamins D3 and K2, which help the body absorb calcium from food, essential for healthy bone development, immune system function, and preventing blood clotting disorders.
Unlike adult supplements, children’s formulations are specifically designed to include DHA, which supports cognitive development and normal vision. The concentration of active ingredients in children’s products is tailored to EFSA recommendations for ages ranging from 6 months to 8 years. While EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), another omega-3 fatty acid, is beneficial in adult supplements to help prevent inflammation, it is less emphasized in children’s formulations.
Natural Supplementation and Stricter Standards
Trime’s product development prioritizes the quality of raw materials, formulation, and production technology. For example, the peroxide concentration in their omega-3 oils is twice as low as the average value and five times lower than the EU limit (Trime achieves 0.6 mEq O2/kg, compared to the EU limit of 3 mEq O2/kg). The omega-3 oil used in Trime’s children’s products is derived from algae instead of fish. This approach ensures long-term sustainability, minimizes environmental impact on marine and freshwater ecosystems, reduces contaminants, and eliminates the need for extensive purification, enhancing oil stability.
“We want to show that nutritional supplements are not just for adults. Essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals are vital at every age. If our regular diet doesn’t provide these, it’s not wrong to supplement with high-quality products. We’ve observed that our customers increasingly recognize this need and actively seek out products like these,” concludes Michal Kočí, Trime’s founder and CEO.
