9 out of 10 Czechs suffer from allergies, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos. Similar findings were reported by Prague’s General University Hospital, which stated that up to 40% of Czechs have allergies. Czech startup Trime, known for its innovative dietary supplements, emphasizes that allergy symptoms such as itchy eyes or runny noses can be alleviated through proper supplementation. Effective supplements for allergy relief include vitamins C and D, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids. However, Trime stresses the importance of choosing high-quality supplements free from allergenic substances.

“Supplements are an effective way to provide the body with essential nutrients that are often missing from modern diets. Beyond general health support, some supplements can help mitigate allergic reactions, which tend to surge in the spring,” explains Jakub Přibyl, nutrition specialist and product developer at Trime.

Vitamin Deficiencies and Allergies

Trime points out that certain nutrients with immunomodulatory effects, meaning they regulate inflammatory pathways triggered by allergens, can help manage allergy symptoms. Vitamin D, for example, acts on receptors in various immune cells, enabling them to synthesize the biologically active form of vitamin D essential for a robust immune response.

“Vitamin D deficiency is a global issue. In the Czech Republic, more than 80% of the population suffers from inadequate vitamin D levels, according to numerous studies. This deficiency can contribute to the development of allergic conditions, including asthma and food allergies. Some studies show that vitamin D supplementation improves allergic symptoms,” adds Přibyl.

Allergy Prevention Starts During Pregnancy

Zinc is another vital nutrient for alleviating allergic reactions, as it reduces the sensitivity of mast cells, which release histamine when exposed to allergens. According to Trime, regular intake of omega-3 fatty acids also has an anti-allergic effect.

“Research has shown that children born to mothers who supplemented with omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy had significantly fewer allergic reactions,” explains Přibyl. He also highlights that overall care for the gut microbiome, achieved through a diverse diet free from highly processed foods, white sugar, and alcohol, plays a crucial role in preventing allergies.

Choose Quality, Not More Allergens

Trime emphasizes the importance of selecting high-quality supplements, as some may contain allergenic substances. During independent laboratory tests of cellulose capsules, Trime discovered significant levels of toxic ethylene oxide, a substance strictly prohibited in food at above-limit concentrations.

“I recommend that consumers choose supplements that closely resemble real food in their composition and biochemical action. Such products are more likely to benefit your health when consumed regularly and are less likely to cause harm,” advises Přibyl.
