Bones, teeth, and immunity—these are just a few of the many aspects of health influenced by vitamin D. According to Trime, a Czech startup specializing in premium dietary supplements designed to resemble real, nutrient-rich foods, more than half of Czechs are unaware of their vitamin D levels. A survey conducted by Trime with 10,000 respondents revealed that nearly 60% of adults and 98% of parents lack knowledge about their children’s vitamin D levels. Studies also confirm that over 90% of the Czech population suffers from a vitamin D deficiency.
“Winter months test our immune systems every year. To stay healthy, we need to care for our immunity long-term, and sufficient vitamin D levels are key to this support. However, during winter, reduced sun exposure means we receive much less vitamin D, making deficiencies common. It’s crucial to monitor vitamin D levels and address any deficiencies promptly,” explains Michal Kočí, co-founder and CEO of Trime.
Czechs Lack Awareness About Their Immunity
Vitamin D deficiency has been a persistent issue in the Czech population. A study by the Czech Institute of Public Health showed that up to 95% of Czechs across various age groups suffer from insufficient vitamin D levels. Trime’s survey further highlighted the lack of awareness, with over half of Czechs having no idea about their vitamin D levels.
“We found that nearly 60% of adults and the vast majority of children have never had their vitamin D levels tested. Among adults who have undergone lab testing, only 14% reached optimal levels of 100–150 nmol/L,” comments Jakub Přibyl, nutrition specialist and product developer at Trime.
Trime’s research also revealed that most respondents do not regularly consume fish from the wild, such as tuna, mackerel, or wild salmon, which are rich sources of vitamin D. Only 7% of Czechs include such fish in their diet three times a week.
“These results are alarming and confirm that Czechs face a significant vitamin D deficiency. However, effective supplementation offers a solution to help individuals achieve optimal levels of vitamin D and boost their immunity. When supplementing, consistency is essential, but so is the quality of the products used. We recommend choosing supplements that closely mimic real food in composition,” adds Přibyl.
